What Causes Leukemia

Leukemia is the term used for the blood cancer or the bone marrow cancer. What happens in leukemia is that the hereditary material of the humans, DNA of immature or pre-mature blood cells primarily those of the white blood cells start to malfunction. The reason for this malfunction can be multiple. Due to this malfunction there is uncontrollable growth of the blood cells.

Normally the blood cells after completing their life cycle die & are replaced by new cells to perform their duties, however in this abnormal growth cells scenario; they don't die that easily or don't die at all. The result is that they take more space in the blood stream as compared to the healthy normal cells. All this ends up in Leukemia.

According to the specialist doctors who have studies this issue for quite some time now & in immense detail state that every type of leukemia has its own separate causes. However, following is the list of most widely known reasons of what causes leukemia:

• Excessive use of hair dyes
• Chemotherapy used for any other cancer
• Down syndrome
• Exposure to some petrochemicals
• Exposure to electromagnetic rays
• Exposure to artificial radiations
• It can be genetic, transferred via the DNA
• People suffering from HIV are more prone to having leukemia
• A very rare case scenario is that it is caused due to maternal fetal transmission

The reason for Down Syndrome patients to be more prone to being suffering from this disease is because they already have a dysfunctional chromosomal system. Likewise it is noted that people suffering from other diseases that involve their chromosomes are also prone to suffering from leukemia.

Electromagnetic rays have the capability of destroying the healthy cells & also have been known to be a cause of creating mutations in the cells. Therefore, it is recommended that people should avoid unnecessary medical tests which require these rays.
